Background to Reflexology
Reflexology is based on the principle that reflex points on the soles, tops, and sides of the feet correspond to different areas of the body. In this way, the feet can be seen as a ‘map’ of the body. By applying specialised massage techniques to specific reflex points using the thumbs, fingers and knuckles.
This treatment is specially adapted to be suitable for women who are pregnant. This type of reflexology is very gentle and aims to support you throughout your pregnancy. Very effective in alleviating and helping you to cope with common pregnancy complaints such as low back pain, swollen ankles and feet (oedema) nausea, morning sickness, pelvic pain, pelvic girdle pain (symphysis pubis dysfunction), heartburn, indigestion, constipation and emotional concerns.
You will be encouraged to relax using calming breathing techniques and includes holistic lifestyle advice and as you approach your due date teaches techniques you and your birthing partner can use to cope during labour as well as prior to induction of labour if required. Support by text and email between appointments or when needed is also provided.
This treatment is suitable from your first trimester and throughout your pregnancy.
